Look for the Similarities

I have traveled all my life since I was a kid, spending so much time going from town to town, and always being in different environments contributed to my isolation, and I was always looking at the differences. When I came into the rooms, I was told to stop looking at differences, but look at the similarities, and relate to the feelings being shared. I have to remember that on a daily basis, I still have a hard time remembering this. The only way I can overcome this anxiety is to do what I was taught, which was to extend out my hand and understand that I am a part of a program. This program of recovery is based on unity and service; I cannot be there for anyone if I am in my isolation. I have become a piece of something much greater than me. The spiritual principles of the 12 steps have brought a unity to my soul. There are always differences between you and I that I can look at, but if I want to find the true essence of step 12, I must learn to love and carry a message, if I don’t relate to you, I stop being a part of you.
