For me, the greatest thing in the Big Book is the discussion of finding a “Power Greater Than Our Self.” I like the majority other Alcoholics I have met over the years, had a problem with the three letter word “God.” I was raised in a very religious family on my mothers side, which completely drove me away from anything having to do with identifying with that term. After studying the book, I grew as most of us do, in a spiritual concept I could start my journey towards a Higher Power. Today the daily routine of having a conversation with a God of my own understanding, delivers me the courage to face myself, and to interact with others, becoming the easier and softer-way. The vigilance of TRYING to find the willingness to remove things that stand in my way, is the key to finding a center, and a basis to live out my day. This is what leads me to the path of our code of Love and Service. This for me happens when I stay spiritually fit. In order for me to be right with you, I must be right with me, by being right and in tune to the “POWER Greater Than Me” which is the 12 Spiritual Principals of the 12 steps.
