I have been sober a number of years, and have had many friends die because of unwillingness. Between denial and being incapable of accepting the first principle which is honesty. I remember when I first started coming around, I could not see or accept the truth of the destructiveness of my actions. I had no intentions of surrendering my friend Alcohol. This so called friend held me hostage, and I was a willing party.
It is so hard to get this message across to the new comer, that they are a self impossed victim of their dysfunction. It’s to hard to even realize that their lives are not functioning, in spite of disaster in their path. This is were the bottom has to be recognized no matter what level or degree that bottom is. A bottom is a bottom, no one can tell you what that is for you, this is something the individual must assess fom themselves. The surrender comes for us all when we HONESTLY raise our hands and say out loud my name is______ and I am an Alcoholic. This may become the one thing that saves you from this deadly disease we call Alcoholism.
