Working Steps Alone

Because we are Alcoholics it is difficult for us to take directions, it’s against our nature. Most of us were not great at working with others. When it is suggested that we find someone to help us through the steps, the anxieties begin, no matter what shape were in. When we first look at what we are being asked to do, most get hung up at the first the four steps, and completely disagree at the 5th, about sharing with another our secrets. I knew from experience that alcohol and drugs had power over me, but because I continued to manage some outside pieces of my life, I could not understand the unmanageability. With all the other parts of the steps, I needed help and direction too. I had to be taught humility through steps 8 and 9. It was through people who were willing to work with me that taught me how to do the things I needed to do, and continue to do, with steps 10, 11, and 12. When I talk with someone new i encourage that they find someone to help them work and find the direction to change, and become a person who learns to work with others. This is important on 2 levels, 1st we learn to take direction, 2nd we learn to hear God’s direction. Thank you for making a 12 step call on me.
