Musicians have an expression when the artistry that’s being created is so deep and strong, and so right that it’s “just wrong”, that’s called a pocket. Now, when your in the pocket it takes your breath away! You are in the energy of creation, which is the essence of life force. Now, to create is spiritual in nature almost like creating life itself. We have a way of taking that ability and start thinking that we are the creators of something that was created long before the life form of a piece of music or a child is born. This is our ego thinking that this has never existed until we created it. Now music has always been there as has the existence of the life energy. There are those who say they don’t believe that there is anything after death and the proven fact is that energy never die’s and I refuse to think that the spark of energy that lies in every cell ceases to exist. So I think, those two concepts create chaos and conflict with each other. I am neither agreeing with or disagreeing with either but I know that from my perspective of my own personal journey in both music and life I would much rather be in the “pocket” with something that gives me comfort, and a groove that keeps me harmonious and happy. This pocket has allowed me to understand that there is only happiness if I allow it to be, and only unhappiness if I don’t create the pocket. I pray that if all does cease to live past this realm that there is a “pocket” in the darkness that is left, cause I can groove in the dark and in that darkness there nothing but the “LIGHT” of all those who created before.
